REGIONAL ENERGY STRATEGY ADOPTED
Thursday, October 18, 2012.
On October 18, 2012, in Budva, the Energy Community (EnC) Ministerial Council adopted the Regional Energy Strategy, which is the first step in the process of an upgraded and more efficient energy infrastructure planning and development in the region. The document brings together the national strategies and plans of the Contracting Parties in the fields of energy, competition and environment, stated the EnC Secretariat in Vienna (More about it available in Special AERS Newsletter).
“With the endorsement of the Strategy, the Ministerial Council clearly demonstrates the Energy Community’s strong ambitions to move towards a more integrated and secured energy market. It shows commitment to better align national policies”stated Mr. Günther Oettinger, European Commissioner for Energy.
The Ministerial Council agreed to implement the European Union Directive on the promotion of renewable energy (RES Directive), thus binding the EnC Contracting Parties to defined shares of renewable energy within their overall consumption in 2020.
The Ministers also adopted Directive (2009/119/EC) on maintaining minimum stocks of crude oil and/or petroleum products which the Parties will be obliged to implement not later than January 1, 2023.
EnC priorities in 2013 will imply further energy strategy strengthening, planning the steps for strategy implementation, including concrete investment plans and infrastructure development, stated the Minister of Energy, Development and Environment Protection, Zorana Mihajlović, assuming the 2013 EnC Charmanship in Budva.
