The ten-year transmission system development plan was drafted in line with the Energy Law and harmonized with the Energy Sector Development Strategy of the Republic of Serbia until 2025 with projections until 2030. Priority goals and activities include enabling secure electricity supply, electricity market development both on national and regional level, increase in transmission capacities and the development of corridors of regional and Pan-European importance through the Republic of Serbia. The ground for transmission system development planning was found in the transmission system operator demand for the construction of new facilities, production system development demand of the Republic of Serbia, review of settled applications for connection of facilities to the transmission system and demand of EMS JSC in terms of projects related to coupling with neighbouring systems.

The realization of these investments has a great impact on the increase in transmission capacities in the regional transmission network and, thereby, on the electricity market in Europe. From the national aspect, the demand includes the construction of power infrastructure which will enable the increase in transmission capacities, national market development, increase in reliability of the transmission system and security of customer supply and increased possibility of connection of new conventional and renewable sources of electricity.
